Preconceived ideas
Today’s post covers my ideas for what I learned from Luke chapter 14.
Jesus challenges our preconceived notions about what it’s like to follow him and obey his rules.
In Luke 14: 1-6, Jesus heals a man on the Sabbath in front of the authorities.
In Luke 14: 7-14, Jesus teaches about humility by asking that we take a less honored seat so that the host might move us to a more honored position.
In Luke 14: 15-24, Jesus teaches that some will become so comfortable in their lives that they won’t even attend the feast that the master gives.
In Luke 14: 25-35, Jesus tells us that the cost of being a disciple is very high and asks us to take careful consideration before becoming one.
While the cost of being a disciple can be said to be high, it’s value is higher than the loss. A relationship with Jesus allows me to understand that I have a very powerful friend, he will give me the eternal in exchange for the temporal. Additionally, following him and learning about him allows me to understand what he actually meant by his instruction rather than assuming what is told to me is correct.
